I’ve got a couple women coming over to try watercolor, and I was having trouble coming up with something to paint.
I finally found a hummingbird, which is NOT something that I normally do. It was a slow, meticulous process, and I had to walk away and wait for things to dry. I used Patience!!! Man, that is so not natural for me.
But it’s a great image, and shows a couple different ways to manipulate watercolor such as wet-in-wet, shadowing, salt for texture. I added a teeny bit of pen on the flower stalk and the eye, and a bit of white Jelly Pen for detail, because I couldn’t find my frisket. The size is 8″ x 10″.
All in all, I’m happy with the outcome, although it’s not content that interests me.
I also think that it really needs a background, but I’ll work on that when the other two are here, since I don’t really care if I wreck this piece.
Not your best, what are the red things at it’s butt. Tail feathers or is it sitting on a red flower???
ha ha, yeah, now that I look at it again, the Butt Feathers are really bad…
You would think it would be easy to come up with an image for a group and I, as well, struggle to come up with something suitable when I do my art day. Can you send me the original image? I agree that the butt feathers could have been a bit finer….Don doesn’t pull any punches.
yeah, I love how honest he is, it’s actually very helpful, as you know… I’ll eMail you the image.
Love these series of shots… Awesome!! Love the salt for texture… Makes me anxious to get to my paints xo Enjoy… Great post 👍❤️
