Hey, it’s been awhile………..
I have been wanting a big-ish painting for our dining room, and I had a 24″ x 30″ canvas laying around, and today I actually started working on it, yay!!
Since I haven’t done any figurative work in a long time, I decided to put more than my usual effort (None!) into actual PREP WORK regarding what I wanted this piece to be.
I’d like it to be a woman lounging on a couch or chair, but it’s obvious from her face that this woman has attitude. Not a BAD attitude, just kind of saucy, and indifferent to what anyone thinks of her. (yeah, yeah, I know what you’re going to say, but sadly I actually DO care about what people think of me……..sometimes……….)
I’d like mainly bright playful colors, but in order for that to work, I’ll need some Darks to make the Brights pop.
I’d like it to be fairly realistic in it’s proportions, but I’m definitely NOT aiming for photo-realism.
Soooooooooooooooo, here’s what I’ve got so far:
I roughed in the basic shapes of woman, couch, and background.
I decided on the main color, which will be her poufy Fancy Dress.
I’m can’t decide if I want her left arm along the top of the couch, or resting on her tummy.
I used napkins to add a pattern to the couch. Wow, are her breasts ever out of whack! Remember, this is just getting the basic shapes laid down.
That’s a very busy pattern, and it will be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay knocked back, so that it’s barely noticeable, but if you DO notice it, you’ll be like “Wow, what great detail!”
Since the face is, to me, the most important part of this painting, I’m not starting it till I feel that I’ve got the rest of the painting 90% nailed down.
Wish me luck!
WOW what great detail. It will be great
Can’t wait to see what you finish up with…..love the background.
