Series – 1 Page From Every Tutorial Book In My Library #27

(As usual, click any image to see it bigger, in a new tab)

I have 111 books in my studio (yes, I counted them) that are Tutorials,  and I acquired them slowly over about 10 years.  I find that I no longer go to them for inspiration, and decided to get rid of them.  Before I do that, however, I’m going to TRY to do ONE PAGE out of each book.  Wish me luck……

27 Books Down, 84 to go….

How To Paint Watercolor Landscapes by Hazel Harrison

Man, I don’t even like painting or drawing landscapes, but here’s another book in my Library; apparently I was interested way back when…..

The artists in this book used really sheer pale colors, but I decided to do mine in Gouache.  Although it’s hard to tell in these photos, my mountains are actually awesome!

Here’s the Reference Photo

And what I did in my Journal.

Paul said he liked it all BUT the leafy-branch shapes at the top, so I tried to get rid of ’em – FAIL!

I really like it. Great reflections in water. You do very nice pen work. 2nd version is more of a northern lights sort of thing.

The clouds in version one are great as well. I think you could have used more variety of colour in the leaf splatter.

I actually used three colors, although you can’t tell that. Also, I went too far into the middle; the middle should have been left as bare sky. And also, the “splatters” should have been bigger, I think.

There were some very good parts of the first and the second attempt over the splatters are interesting .. Looks like an impending storm .. need some lightning… Good work !!
