Series – 1 Page From Every Tutorial Book In My Library #23

(As usual, click any image to see it bigger, in a new tab)

I have 111 books in my studio (yes, I counted them) that are Tutorials,  and I acquired them slowly over about 10 years.  I find that I no longer go to them for inspiration, and decided to get rid of them.  Before I do that, however, I’m going to TRY to do ONE PAGE out of each book.  Wish me luck……

23 Books Down, 88 to go….

An Illustrated Life by Danny Gregory.

An compilation of multiple artists who regularly use Journals.  Some do it to hone their drawing skills, some as reference for larger pieces of art, but MANY of them do it to document their day-to-day life.

I don’t do this, because there would just be too many pages of me lying in bed eating popcorn and reading – I mean how often could you draw that and make it appear to be of value?

But in the interest of this exercise I thought I’d draw an incident that happened to me recently.  The very short version of this incident is that I somehow got a LOT of my hair stuck in the handlebars of my bike when I lifted it down off the Bike Carrier.

My original intent was to draw it in my journal, but then I decided, for this example, I’d set up a maquette of the scene, since I happen to have a pose-able Mannequin and a Bike that’s almost the right size.

I’ll stick one of these photos in my journal to memorialize the general on-going goofiness that is my life…………….

My butt was SO high up in the air, and I could NOT move my head.  Finally, a guy that was trying to leave the parking lot came over and very gently extricated the huge clumps of hair and set me free……

I love it but I really think you should paint a large canvas of it
    (I would buy it)

  2. Love your story and impressed you could recreate the memory with on hand props! Maybe your journal should become a book about your adventures.

  3. Maureen says:
