OK, just a bear, actually. This one gave me some major grief. The initial painting looked tragic – This is about 75% done, and it’s still missing an ear.
Fortunately, I know from experience not to give up too soon, so I continued painting, and added the black lines, but gah, it was bad.
I don’t have a photo of it, but the nose was off, somehow; the dip in the middle of the back was too pronounced (Paul gives me GREAT feedback, he’s got an excellent eye for perspective!); it wasn’t grounded; the eyes did not look at all “alive”, and it was just plain messy….ick….
I looked at it in my studio for about 5 days, and then just took a huge paint brush and painted over the eye and snout area with white Gesso. I wish I’d taken a photo of that step, but just never thought of it.
It’s scary to do that, but I never would’ve put it in a show looking the way it did, so worst case scenario was that I simply made it worse, and then painted over the whole canvas and started over.
But YAY, I actually managed to correct all the little “issues”, and I love this piece, and it will definitely be hanging in the show!
