A Bad Day In The Studio….

is still better than NOT being in the studio at all…..

I started a clay piece, intending to make some fish that would be open on the bottom so that they could be mounted on ReBar and “swim” through a garden without touching the ground.  No luck.  The fish just would NOT look like a “nice” fish.  It wouldn’t be a salmon.  It wouldn’t be a trout.  It just fought me, and insisted on being this exceptionally hideous eel.

I’m keeping the creepy thing. One side actually has a tear in it, and I’m leaving it that way.
I’ll probably wash it with velvet underglazes in browns and blacks to really accent it’s horridness.
Some days are just like that…………….

Curious that you would keep this horrible looking eel that was suppose to be a fish???. Something you taught me was, if I wasn’t happy with my end result, destroy it, (clay to be used another time), start with a fresh piece of clay, and make what you wanted.

Yep, and that is totally true. Clay is completely re-usable, so if you’re feeling NOTHING but frustration, smash that piece and start a new one. The difference here is that, although the piece didn’t match my expectations, I can actually see it turning into a very interesting piece of macabre art. I wouldn’t want it on display in my house, but I really like weird pieces. It’s inspired me to go back in there and make some creepy people-fish, so stay tuned.

I think it’s great that the day wasn’t wasted and that you created something different than you started out to do and and can now see all the posibillites to come.
Do I think your weird? Maybe just a tiny bit!
