So what I love about arting with Jen is that no matter what project either of us comes up with, we both just DO IT!!
We went to an awesome Art Store in Kona, on the Big Island – Akamai Art Supply. Naturally, we had to buy stuff, ’cause you just can’t have enough art doo dads, can you?? The women who run this store were friendly and helpful, and they had tons of good stuff, it’s a really well stocked store.
I bought an applicator for Frisket that’s wicked cool (MasquePen), and I also bought a 4-pack of 2 oz Holbein Watercolors that are really clean and bright.
So, my project was that we’d do a cactus (to use the frisket applicator for the spiny bits) and we’d ONLY use these four colors.
Naturally, Jen agreed, although this color palette makes her cringe in horror(?) Fear(?) Dismay(?).
Sooooooooooooo, we’d also bought watercolor paper in block form, and we did the paintings on these 9″ x 12″ sheets.
Here’s Jen’s, masked out with the frisket.
Here’s my finished piece, which I totally hate
And here’s Jen’s
I can not even begin to tell you how much I hated my piece, BUT the cool thing about that is that I could play around with it and not worry about wrecking it. I lifted the 6th bloom on the left, and made the left-hand side of the background waaaay darker. This was a big improvement.
But then I started pfuttzing around with the insides of the blooms, and totally messed them up…ah well, didn’t care, it was a crap piece anyway.
You are NOT going to believe what Jen’s project is………..
I love what you are doing, very talented women!
If I come to Hawaii, could I be as talented as you two?
oh please please please come to Hawaii!! I’ve got a daiquiri waiting in the freezer for you. And you’re already as talented, just in different and magical ways………..
